Bell The CAT-IIM

CAT-2013-14Common Admission Test as popularly known As CAT does not need any formal introduction.Those aspiring to get into India’s top B-Schools i.e. IIM’s,knows more than enough about it and CAT is also a known term for others.

CAT is considered to be relatively more difficult than other management entrance tests basically because of its syllabus as there is no defined syllabus and also due to the huge number of applicants fighting for a few thousand seats available at the premier IIM’s. CAT 2013 is no different with the dates for CAT-2013 announced on 30th April.

CAT-2013 dates are as follows:-

  • Voucher sale window will be open from July 29 to September 24, 2013.
  •  Registration window is from July 29 to September 26, 2013.
  • Exam will be held from October 16 to November 11, 2013.

Though there is no word on test pattern and syllabus yet.

CAT-2013 will also be computer based test, conducted in multiple cities during a window of 3-4 weeks. A candidate can select his / her test date and slot as per choice and availability.

Pattern will be more or less same as CAT-2012 with total time of 2 hrs 20 mins.There will be two sections having 30 questions and 70 minutes(1 hr 10 min) each.There will also be a 15-minute tutorial to familiarize candidates with navigation and functionality available during the test.

So,the total time adds up-to 2 hrs 35 mins.

Sections will be divided into

  1. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (30 questions,70 mins)
  2. Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning(30 questions,70 mins)

The candidate cannot choose any section to attempt first.The Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation section will be presented first followed by Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.Each section will have an on-screen countdown timer and once the time i.e. 70 mins allotted to the section ends it will automatically go to the nest section and the candidate cannot go back to the first section.Candidate cannot end the first sec until 70 mins are up however they can end the second section before 70 mins are up.

Coming to the syllabus:-Syllabus presented here was for CAT-2012 though it will be more or less same for 2013 also.

CAT 2012 Syllabus for English:

Comprehension of passage, Verbal Reasoning, Syllogisms , Contextual usage, Analogies, Antonyms, Fill In the Blanks, Foreign language words used in English, Sentence completion, Sentence correction, idioms, Errors in word choice, mania & phobia, Incorrect words, Conditionals & Multiple Usage , Punctuation, Proverb, , one word substitution, Different usage of same word Phrasal verb etc.

CAT 2012 Syllabus for Quantitative Ability:

  • Geometry, (Lines, angles, Triangles, Spheres, Rectangles, Cube, Cone etc)
  • Ratios and Proportion, Ratios, Percentages, In-equations
  • Quadratic and linear equations
  • Algebra
  • Mensuration, Alligation & Mixtures, Work, Pipes and Cisterns
  • Instalment Payments, Partnership, Clocks
  • Probability, Permutations & Combinations
  • Profit & Loss
  • Averages, Percentages, Partnership
  • Time-Speed-Distance, Work and time
  • Number system: HCF, LCM, Geometric Progression, Arithmetic progression, Arithmetic mean, Geometric mean , Harmonic mean, Median, Mode, Number Base System, BODMAS, etc.

CAT 2012 Syllabus for Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

  • Data Interpretation based on text, Data Interpretation based on graphs and tables. visit tutorial>>
  • Graphs can be Column graphs, Graphs representing Area, Bar Graphs, Line charts, Pie Chart, Venn Diagram, etc.

  • Critical reasoning, Visual reasoning, Assumption-Premise-Conclusion, Assertion and reasons, Statements and conclusions, Cause and Effect, Identifying Probably true, Probably false, definitely true, definitely false kind of statement, Linear arrangements, identifying Strong arguments and Weak arguments, Matrix arrangements.
