Darjeeling Himalayan Railway

Famous to be known as “Toy Train” it is one of those train rides in India one must take.Established in the year 1881,a narrow gauge train connection between New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling. The distance is around 80 kms and take almost 7-8 hours depending on the weather condition

It has also been listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site as  the Train line has been maintained in its original state, the Indian Railways has done a remarkable job in maintaining the route.Since it is a hilly area and rain is frequent, there are sudden landslides, but Indian Railway employees are always ready to clear any obstacles on the route.

The Train now runs on Diesel Engine instead of Steam Engine though Steam Engine Rides are also available but limited to certain stations in and near Darjeeling.

Before reaching Darjeeling,it passes through Ghum Railway Station(India’s Highest Railway Station)
