Breast Cancer-The Cancer to know About

I am not writing anything new in this post but I had to write this post on whatever knowledge or whatever information I was able to gather from the net and from my personal experience.Recently one of close relative was diagnosed with Tumor which could have led to Breast Cancer.

Now is all fine and undergoing treatment and her tumor has been removed and she is back to normal, though doctors are waiting for her reports to give a final result on the status and further treatment she needs.

According to statistic Breast Cancer is most common type of cancer between Women not only in India but also in other parts of the World. There are an estimated 1,00,000-1,25,000 new breast cancer cases in India every year. And it is one of the fastest spreading disease among women which is expected to double by 2025.Only those who have suffered on gone through this disease know the effect and the mental torture it gives not only to the Patient but also to the family members.Prevention is better that Cure and it is very true, the more we are aware of certain thing the more we are safe.

Breast Cancer as defined by Wikipedia says that Breast cancer is a type of cancer originating from breast tissue, most commonly from the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply the ducts with milk.Cancers originating from ducts are known as ductal carcinomas, while those originating from lobules are known as lobular carcinomas. Breast cancer occurs in humans and other mammals. While the overwhelming majority of human cases occur in women, male breast cancer can also occur.

Moreover the characteristic of Cancer,I mean the stage of Cancer decide the treatment one need to undergo which may include surgery, medications (hormonal therapy and chemotherapy), radiation and/or immunotherapy.

Breast Cancer Symptoms:-

The most common sign of breast cancer is a new lump or mass in the breast. In addition, the following are possible signs of breast cancer:

It is best to detect breast cancer before any of these signs occur by following screening mammography guidelines. You should discuss these or any other findings that concern you with your health care professional.

Breast cancer diagnosis:-

Although breast cancer can be diagnosed by the above signs and symptoms, the use of screening mammography has made it possible to detect many of the cancers early before they cause any symptoms.

The American Cancer Society has the following recommendations for breast cancer screenings:

Women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year and should continue to do so as long as they are in good health.

“Mammograms are a very good screening tool for breast cancer. As in any test, mammograms have limitations and will miss some cancers. The results of your mammogram, breast exam, and family history should be discussed with your health care professional.”

Women should have a clinical breast exam (CBE) as part of regular health exams by a health care professional about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 years of age and over.

“CBE are an important tool to detect changes in your breasts and also trigger a discussion with your health care professional about early cancer detection and risk factors.”

Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.Women should report any breast changes to their health care professional.

If a woman wishes to do BSE, the technique should be reviewed with her health care professional. The goal is to feel comfortable with the way the woman’s breasts feel and look and, therefore, detect changes.

Women at high risk (greater than 20% lifetime risk) should get an MRI and a mammogram every year.Women at moderate risk (15% to 20%) should talk to their doctor about the benefits and limitations of adding MRI screening to their yearly mammogram.

Death-The Inevitable Fate

Drowning

Drowning

There are certain things in that are inevitable,it is bound to come sooner or later to everyone’s life.Out of all the inevitable things in life I consider ‘Death’ to be the most inevitable thing in one’s life.

To be honest no one really knows or have any idea of the timing of this inevitable fate and I consider this to be the most inevitable because I have seen death so closely that even today when I think of that moment I go numb.

So,it was back in my engineering days,on a bright sunny weekend me along with my roommates and two of my friends who had come over to my room to spend the weekend decided to go for swimming in a nearby lake as an adventure, adventure because out of 6 boys(3 roommates,2 friends and me) only 2 of them knew swimming, me excluded so for most of us it appeared to be an adventure and fun unlimited and we  was like ‘mazak mazak mein tairana bhi seekh lenge :-P’ though it is not a one day job.

In no time we were near the lake with snacks, cigarettes(all of us were smokers though not heavy smokers) and cold drinks, the view of the lake was exhilarating and the feeling of swimming inside me was saying like ‘aaj to tairana seekh hi lunga’ no one can stop me from mastering swimming now.We all started taking off our clothes, not completely though 😛 and we all were in our shorts getting ready swim, smoking cigarettes before the swim.

One of my roommate was the first one to get into the water,he is really a damn good swimmer then my friend followed the suit with 4 of us left(the non-swimmer guys) waiting for their fun to get over and help us to get into the lake. Finally they came to us and told to follow them,we held their hands and slowly went deep into the water not so deep though just above my chest and I am 5ft 7inch. After spending sometime in the water we became comfortable flapping our legs and hands tirelessly and started having

Fear Of Drowning

Fear Of Drowning

fun with everyone showing our different skills in water  then came my friend who niether know swimming nor he was interested in it rather he was interested in showing his “Muay Thai” skills which he started learning few months back,he started punching and kicking everyone around with unique techniques and all of a sudden the horror show started as he kicked me and suddenly I went deeper and my legs slipped, without the knowledge of me slipping he came near punched me,in this event I grabbed his hand for support but to my dismay even he slipped with me and the water getting to our neck slowly without much notice of our other friends. After some screaming they noticed us but at that point of time my body was completely under water with only my fingers visible and for my friend his hair was also visible. My good swimmer friend came to our rescue and started pulling my friend by holding his hair and me by holding my index finger as to him only my right hand 3 fingers were visible at that point of time.Lucky God we were saved and my friend was a ‘hero’ for me at that time. But I must say I was like drowned for 2 minutes and I knew that if my friend would have been late by 30 seconds or so I would have been a Past Person and for that 2 minutes of my drowning,I literally saw all my loved ones face appearing before me and I was bidding farewell to them.

This is my real story getting one to one with death and It was a lifetime experience as for that now I have no fear for Death as I know every Human is bound to taste this Inevitable Fate when time comes.

Sorry for this long post but I wrote this post as to preserve my memories,so that at some point of time I can cherish my memories as it taught me a lesson in life.. 🙂

Pay Heed to Warnings,Live Life Better

Warning signs in every sphere of life has a lot more to say than we can ever imagine. There may be instances when warning signs will save us from pitfalls.

Those who are well aware of the warning signs they received are in a much better position to lead a happy and enjoyable life than others who never pays any heed to them.Even I used to never pay heed to them and believe me I learned the hard way.

Even I also kind of never use to pay any attention to the warning signs with respect to my health and I faced the consequences. It was like 6 months back when I had a feeling of mild back pain and I never paid any attention to it as it happened only once in a week. During that time I also had some tooth problems, so can you guys imagine the trouble I went through after ignoring the warning signs.

Ok, so let me explain the troubles I faced. First of all it was my low back pain that made my life miserable, whatever I do I was not able to sit or walk properly and as the days passed it became unbearable until I decided to visit an Orthopedic, he did a full check-up on me, asked several questions on my day-to-day activities and after all that asked me to do a x-ray and prescribed me few medicines and asked to visit after one week. For that one week I was on his medication and I was kind of getting relief. The week got over and I visited the doctor again with my x-ray report, looking at my x-ray report the doctor said that there was nothing serious and it is a common problem as some kind of fluid present in our joins come out creating the void and results in pain but with proper medication and exercise it can be cured and guess what I am free from my low back pain now and regularly following the exercise prescribed by him to keep it away :-).

Now, the trouble I faced with my tooth though the problem started after my back pain was over but I got the signs much earlier but no heed as always. My tooth started getting black with severe ache and I decided to visit a dentist. After examining my tooth the dentist said it is not nothing but decaying. The black spot is a cavity and bacteria that reside in the mouth release acids, causing the decay of teeth. The dentist said that the decaying was severe as the cavity has formed and the nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay .So he suggested to go for root canal, done with x-rays and all other procedures. At first I was scared because I had never faced anything like this before but considering my tooth I went ahead and completed my root canal treatment just a month back and I made a promise to myself to visit the dentist at least twice a year and take good care of them and keep on my smile always :-). Stay up to date on dental related issue here.

So,that’s all what I learned the hard way,Hope everyone respond to their warning signs until it’s too late,Even my Mom used to say never neglect your health as we know “Health is Wealth”. See I am All Smiles now.. :-P.
